Project o1 >> Predesign Analysis

The first project of the module: Architectural Design project is titled: ”pre-design analysis”.

Similar to the previous semesters, it is a group and individual project that deals with the research and pre-design stage of the design project.

In two weeks, all tutorial groups are expected to come up with a comprehensive site analysis that documents their understandings and findings of the site, revolving around the topic of “sustaining humanities”.

The objectives of the project are as follows:

1. Develop a simple brief for an architectural design project.

2. Conduct pre-design analyse to inform the design project

Based on these learning objectives, we students are tasked to conduct and present our findings of the pre-design analysis, inclusive of the following:

1. Studies of the contextual conditions of your site

2. Studies on your selected user group and building types

3. Studies on the cultural and meaning place.

4. Studies on the current restrictions and proposed development on site and how it will affect the project and design.

5. Studies on precedents that inform the ideas/approach/strategies that can be used in developing project and programme.

Our Given site is at the intersection of Jalan Sultan Ismail - Jalan P Ramlee, located in Kuala Lumpur

Project o2>> Finalised Design

Project 1C is titled: Detailed Design and Final Executive Report.

It is the final part of the project and directly involves the design that is an outcome of the first and second part of the project.

It is a purely individual project and aims to consolidate an understanding of the holistic nature of the architectural design process, to a given degree of detail, with emphasis on design as an integrative process, drawing as appropriate on previous subjects of the program.

Based over several weeks of work, the tasks consist of the following:

1. Based on your proposed sketch design, consider and include expanded aspects of design development in tandem with the design of spaces, e.g. regulatory requirements, fire safety, materials, construction, sustainability, feasibility and other relevant considerations, wherever possible, integrating their development to produce a richer, more multi-layered design.

2. Develop a selected portion of your design for technological development and resolution. Tectonic thinking in design approach.

3. Integrate environmental strategies into your design. May consider current sustainable trends and design features.

4. To present work in a most comprehensive, systematic, creative and comprehensible manner. Architectural Visualisation, modelling and report.

// About the Site

Jalan Sultan Ismail- Jalan P.Ramlee | Kuala Lumpur
Over commercialisation of building | losing sense of attachment

Being a financial district located within the Golden Triangle of Kuala Lumpur (KL Tower, KLCC and Pavilion),
also the transitioning road between KLCC and KL Tower, resulted in high density of tourists and white collar.
Increase of international franchise along Jalan P.Ramlee resulted with the diminishing of Local residence.
Leading the site to have temporary user group with distinct activity timeline which lead to diminishing of Malaysia culture.
